News / Sat 8th Apr 2017 at 10:28am

HARLOW Council has agreed to use gender neutral terms after a robust debate at Thursday’s council meeting.

A motion led by deputy leader of Harlow Council, cllr Emma Toal looked to get rid of terms such as chairman when the person was a woman.

But the opposition was not for turning and in a combative debate, Conservative cllr Shona Johnson argued the case for the opposition.

All Labour councillors as well as the two UKIP councillors voted for the motion. All Conservative councillors abstained.

The film of the debate is below.
