YOUNG Owen Lambert (11) and Adam Pope (21) both made the long trip to Sheffield to represent their School/College and their Club, Harlow Judo Club, in the 2017 British Schools Championships.

This National high level event attracted Clubs from all over England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and was very well attended and all those competing were of a high standard. There was a specific section of the competition that included those with Special Needs varying from the blind and wheel chair bound to low level Special Needs.

Owen (11) representing his School, St Andrews C of E, Stanstead Abbotts, competed in the Year 6/7 group, breezing through to the Final winning all of his fights in his pool by either Ippon or Waza-ari/hold. Despite scoring first and with the Gold medal in sight, a referee’s decision denied him this and eventually he took the Silver as unfortunately, a turn of events saw his opponent counter his move to deny him the Gold.

Adam (21) representing Harlow College, fought in the Special Needs section and represented his College in a mixed weight group. He fought well but with a couple of his opponents weighing heavier than himself, it was going to be a tough group. Unfortunately Adam lost his fights but managed to come away with a respectable Bronze medal.

The Club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area. Please contact the Club for more details. They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE.
