*Greens to tackle the big issues for young people: Housing, work and education

*Co-leader Jonathan Bartley: “The Conservative Government has launched a war on young people”

The Green Party launched its youth manifesto today (May 20), promising to crack down on unpaid internships, protect renters and cancel student debt. Co-leader Jonathan Bartley and the party’s young candidates, including Harlow candidate Hannah Clare, outlined a series of pledges at an event in London.

The Green Party’s youth policies include:

Interns and trainees entitled to the national living wage
Scrapping of age-related wage bands
Introduce a living rent for all through rent controls and more secure tenancies for private renters
Abolish tuition fees and cancel all student debt
Jonathan Bartley, Green Party co-leader, said:

“The Conservative Government has launched a war on young people, taking public debt and hanging it around the necks of the next generation – cutting their housing benefit, increasing tuition fees and scrapping education grants.

“Young people matter and a political party that fails to work with and listen to young people, that ignores them in favour of older voters, that thinks of the future only in terms of their tenure in office not the lifetime of today’s youth, is not a political party at all but a closed-off clique.”

Harlow’s Green Party Candidate, who is also Co-Chair of the Party’s Youth wing, Hannah Clare said:

“I am really pleased to have launched this manifesto today, our positive future for my generation. There is nothing strong, nor stable, about the future other parties are promising young people but this manifesto promises a stable future for all.

From ensuring secure tenancies, to writing off student debt, it is a platform I am proud to stand on, alongside the 50 other young green candidates in this election”
