Rock School To Rock The Park

IT’s a busy weekend for Harlow Rock School this Bank Holiday as they hope the promised heatwave materialises in time to make their now annual music festival as successful as previous years. In between the frantic last minute rehearsals and preparations that invariably accompany an event of this magnitude, the students and adult volunteers took a little time out to take to the stage at the Heart4Harlow festival in the Watergardens to showcase their slightly softer side, bringing keyboards and acoustic guitars to the fore as a curtainraiser to events in the Town Park on Monday.

“This is our 3rd year on the bandstand as a stand alone entity” said Sue Wood from Rock School. “Although previously we’d benefited from sizeable slots at Linkfest, for which we were always grateful, the comments from both musicians and audience there convinced us that we had a strong enough output to run our own youth orientated festival. Jamie Pring (Linkfest organiser) agreed and gave us his blessing, and here we are! The ethos of Rock School in recent years has been all about performing in the community, and to perform on probably the biggest stage in town, where countless famous artists have appeared in the past, is a massive opportunity for us to show the town that the young people of Harlow have so much more to offer than our national pres would have you believe.”

With plenty of charity side stalls, and refreshments available throughout the day, the music kicks off around midday on the bandstand at Spurriers on Bank Holiday Monday, and is expected to run through until 7pm. The organisers request that you bring your chairs, your blankets and your sunscreen, but most of all YOURSELVES!
