THE Harvey Centre in Harlow was evacuated for a short time this morning.

Shoppers and shopkeepers were ushered out of the building at just after 10am this morning.

People waited patiently at each entrance calmly chatting. A security guard was on hand to politely let people know that they could not enter.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of suspect package at the Harvey Centre at around 10am today.

“The building had been evacuated. Officers attended at determined it was not a suspicious device and there is no risk to the public.

“The incident has been stood down.”

Soon after (1030 am), people were allowed back in and the shopping centre resumed as normal.

Well done to the emergency services and security team in the Harvey centre in Harlow today for doing a great job on looking after the public. I am glad that everything was ok and everyone was safe. From Cllr Dan Long.
