Artful Dodger headlines Harlow Town’s 70th Anniversary Festival in August.

HARLOW Town is organising a music bonanza this August to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Performers from X-Factor and the Voice will be performing on a 40ft trailer stage at the Market Square along with local acts to help showcase the very best of Harlow. Andrew Richardson a Director of Phoenix Resource Centre, one of the organisers said, “It is also an opportunity for local businesses, community groups and charities to meet the residents of Harlow and demonstrate once and for all how dynamic and diverse Harlow has become.”

Acts performing over the three day festival include the Artful Dodger, Gabz, Luke Burr, Dub Project, Luke Friend, Jessica Richardson, DJ Index, Jamie Lee Harrison, Phatt Jack, Luke Friend, Ricochet, Harry Gardner, Keira Robinson, Main Offender, Rob Kelly, Stacey Lee and many more. TIW Combat Academy will be doing a mini exhibition of fight techniques and skills. There will be demonstrations from Pole Train Fitness, Drone Racing and many local businesses running competitions and giving goddie-bags away to promote their wares. There will be performances from local Theatre Groups like the Bus Stop Theatre Company and local bands to celebrate what some of the youth do with their spare time in Harlow.

This is a fine example of Harlow Council’s Regeneration Team working with third sector organisations like the Phoenix Group to bring together community events to celebrate the very best the Town has to offer.

The event will converge over three days, the 4th, 5th & 6th of August from 11:00am to 11:00pm and will spread from East Gate to the Market Square in the Town Centre. The event is free for all to enjoy.

If you would like to be one of the exhibitors or you would like to showcase your group simply contact [email protected] and Phoenix will be in touch and schedule you in.

How times have changed since Sir Frederick Gibberd, the Town’s architect, won awards for his pioneering and radical designs for housing the masses as they spilled from London in 1951. A fine piece of social engineering bringing businesses and employees together into self-sustaining communities.
This self-sustaining ethos is at the heart of the Phoenix Group who, as a social enterprise directly support the local community. Rob Dyer, Director of Phoenix Studios said, “Phoenix is an exciting organisation and we are planning to launch several new social enterprise projects over the next three years where we use sound business principles to generate profits and then we will give these profits back to the community of Harlow.”

Partnerships like Phoenix and Harlow Council are becoming ever more common as local authorities around the country are straining at the seams with budget cuts to continue to provide community services. This symbiosis is the way forward to help local authorities meet their commercialisation agenda and self-sustain.
