Athletics: Awards galore for Harlow in midweek league

HARLOW Running Club competed in the Midweek League Road Race Mob Match last
Thursday at Welwyn Garden City in a 10k race involving runners from all three
divisions of the league. After the race there was a Midweek League presentation
ceremony in which HRC picked up eight individual Division 2 series awards. In
the Ladies section Carinne Jay and Debbie Barry were the trophy winners in the
Vet 45 and Vet 55 categories respectively while Sharon Wright and Julia Gardiner
were runners up in the Senior and Vet 35 categories respectively. In the men’s
section Alan Broughton and John Tennant were runners up in the Vet 50 and Vet 60
categories respectively while Rob Lowe and Graham Saville came 3rd in the Vet 40
and Vet 50 categories respectively. On the night the men finished in 7th place
out of 18 teams, the ladies 9th and overall HRC were 7th. In the ladies race
Sharon Wright finished in 4th place out of 194 finishers in a personal best time
for the distance (PB) of 41min 30sec. She was followed home by Paula Reynolds
18th in 44.51, Carinne Jay 47th in 48.03, Kerry Mavris 67th in 50.36, Debbie
Barry 88th in 53.10, Holly Nairn 96th in 54.26, Janice Page 106th in 55.37 and
Karen Moir 141st in 58.00. In the men’s race Rob Lowe finished in 28th place out
of 312 finishers in 36.52. He was followed by Ian Charters 52nd in 38.14 (PB),
Craig Segal 59th in 38.37 (PB), Barry Mooney 71st in 39.26 (PB) and Dan McCree
73rd in 39.30.

Meanwhile at the Harry Hawkes 10 mile race at Thames Ditton Andy Kinney finished
in 590th place out of 639 finishers in 1hr 50min 55sec.

At the Eton Dorney Standard Triathlon near Windsor, a 1.5k open water swim, 40k
bike ride and 10k run, Faith Jackson-Lee finished in 29th place out of 139
finishers and 1st Female Vet in 2hrs 21min 17sec, a PB by an incredible 32min.
Paul Lee was 34th in 2.23.54, a PB by over 14min.

At Harlow parkrun 5k Afewerk Rossom was 1st finisher out of 195 finishers in
17.02, just 9 secs outside his own Under 20 Club Record. He was followed by Ian
Charters 2nd in 18.55, Andy Terrell 3rd in 20.33, Ben Chitiyo 6th in 21.25,
Terry Ridge 9th in 21.53, Martin Westley 11th in 22.06, Catherine Ridge 16th in
22.25, John Bull 21st in 23.14, Paul Dixon 25th in 23.47, Martin Elven 47th in
25.58, Jim Bates 53rd in 26.38, Robin Lozeau 60th in 27.03, Louise Cootes 61st
in 27.09, Debbie Barry 62nd in 27.10, Andrew Smith 79th in 28.49, Alan
Wellbelove 86th in 29.18, Pushpa Mistry 90th in 29.50, Alison Bull 107th in
31.27 and Caz Smith 110th in 31.50.

At the Hatfield Forest parkrun Alan Broughton finished in 3rd place out of 255
finishers in 19.34, Martin McColgan was 83rd in 25.22 and Terry Pike 135th in

At Billericay parkrun Spencer Brooks finished in 35th place out of 242 finishers
in 23.32 and Brenda Clayton was 120th in 30.13.

At Walthamstow parkrun Jane Evans finished in 38th place out of 89 finishers in
