A TEENAGER who was present at the time of the alleged attack that led to the death of Arek Jozwik has testified that members of the group were subject to racist taunts and threatening behaviour by “Polish men” a court heard.

The teenager’s recorded interview was played at Chelmsford Crown Court where a sixteen-year-old male, who cannot be named because of his age, stands trial accused of the manslaughter of Arek Jozwik on August 27th, 2016.

The teenage witness described a scene where a group of nine youths were sitting on the benches in the middle of the Stow shopping precinct.

He said: “I saw three Polish men, they went into get pizza nearby. They sat on a wall near to us. One of them, wearing a red top, was shouting over to us. He was shouting “black ni@@ers”.

“He came over and stumbled over some of us but his friend, the one that died, pulled him off.

“It calmed down for a bit and then the one that died brushed past someone’s bike. My mate said “Don’t touch me”.

“After that, I saw (the accused”) go over to behind the man. I saw his arm raised and I saw the man fall but I didn’t see him hit him.

“He hit the ground.

“I walked away. The guy in the red top seemed to fall over.

“I felt bad for the man. No-one intended for it to happen, It was an accident”.

Another teenager’s video evidence was played to the court.

She said: “The man in the red top gave a mouthful to one of us. He was staring at us.

“He was a big man and he was very drunk.

I was sitting on the benches but I moved over to near Bargain Booze.

“It all then happened so fast. I didn’t see the punch.

The final statement of the day was from the manager of TGF Pizza in The Stow.

His statement was read out.

He described serving the three Polish men and also seeing the group of youth sitting outside.

“At 1135 hrs, there was bang on my window. I went out. One man lay on the floor. He was bleeding from the ear. I pinched his hand but there was no response.

“The bigger man was also on the floor but he opened his eyes.

“I didn’t see the incident”

The case continues.
