Farmfest at Herts and Essex Community Farm on Saturday 12th August

FOR the fourth year running Harlow’s grassroots urban farming project, Herts and Essex Community Farm, based in Foldcroft, Harlow, will be hosting their very own local festival, Farm Fest.

The festival has gone from strength to strength in the last four years, providing a unique, affordable day out for the whole community.

The festival is free entry and takes place at the farm from 13:00pm until 20:00pm. There will be live music, a farm shop and a variety of stalls and games for all the family.

Farm founder Elliot Wollen said: “This is the fourth year we have hosted Farm Fest now and each year has been bigger and better than the year before so we’re really looking forward to this year’s event”

“We’ve been really lucky with the music line up this year and are really excited that Billy Lunn has agreed to play for us.”

Stalls this year will include a natural henna artist, a old fashioned coconut shy, a cake stand, tombola, face painting and bag printing. There will also be traditional children’s games including hook the duck and a lucky dip.

New for 2017 will be a hidden art gallery exploring the town’s history and celebrating Harlow’s 70th birthday and reiki and essential oils workshop in the willow classroom.

Farm Volunteer Jo O’Reilly said: “It’s great fun to be a part of the event every year, but it feels extra special this year as we are celebrating Harlow turning 70.”

“We’ve really enjoyed being a part of the Harlow community for the last four years and this is our way of giving something back in exchange for all the support we receive year round.”

Hot food will be available on the day as the farm makes use of their recently upgraded BBQ area. There will also be a veggie kitchen serving delicious vegetarian and vegan options, with many of the ingredients grown on site. All food will be reasonably priced to ensure the day is accessible to all.

Once against his year Farmfest will be working with Harlow Foodbank and visitors are encouraged to bring along tinned food for donation. Additionally this year the event will be working with The Homeless Period Harlow and visitors are welcome to bring along sealed women’s sanitary items to be donated to local schools and community centres.

Each year the festival provides a platform for local artists to come and perform an acoustic set on the outdoor stage at the farm and this year is no different. The line up includes:

Rock School

Mr B and the Wolf

Billy Lunn

Sam Russell

In the evening from 20:00pm until late there will be an after party hosted at Phoenix Radio in the town centre with more local acts including:

Ella Brand

Jack Howell

Oscar Mic

Entry to the afterparty is £3 on the door, entry is on a first come first served basis.
