THE finance team at O-I UK has worked with Harlow Fields School and College to improve its facilities as part of an unusual team-building day.

As O-I’s UK finance team had new members and new responsibilities, the company’s Finance Lead, Benoit Mormède contacted the Harlow Fields School and College to arrange a day of DIY to benefit the school. “I decided to have everybody work on something totally different from their daily job, in a completely different environment.”

Harlow Fields is a specialist school for children between 3 and 19 who have severe, moderate and complex needs. The 11-strong finance team, who normally spend their days crunching numbers, found themselves wielding paint brushes and hammers as they painted a corridor and built two fences at the school.

Cat Mathers, working in Finance at the Alloa Plant said, “It’s incredible to see that there was nothing here when we started in the morning and, at the end of the day, there was a complete wooden fence protecting the area. I never thought we could achieve such a result, in a day, with our own hands.”

John Holland, Business Manager at Harlow Fields said, “Thank you so much for your dedicated hard work on what truly has pushed us ahead of our summer works programme. We simply would not be in this position without your support.”

Benoit Mormède said, “O-I values its people and O-I people value their communities. The Harlow plant has grown up alongside the town, so it’s wonderful that we are able to improve the school for children and parents to come.”
