GEORGE Franks (10) and Owen Lambert (11) represented Harlow Judo Club in the Eastern Area Open Age Banded Championships. They travelled to Thetford, Norfolk to compete in the 3 mat area event. Both boys competed in the Minors group (age 8 to 11) and the standard of Judo was as usual very high and everyone who attended, was not disappointed.

First up was George. He won 3 out of his 5 fights in his weight group with some superb judo, but despite battling hard, unfortunately lost out on the fight for the Bronze medal and finished fifth.

Next up was Owen. This is his last competition in the Minors category where he will automatically move up to the Pre-Cadets section (age 12 to 14). He showed great maturity and demonstrated great judo techniques to win all his fights via Ippon (maximum score) in his own weight group to take the Gold medal to become the Eastern Area Champion.

Coach Mick Ellis said “I am very pleased with the boys’ performances today – they both fought extremely well and listened to my instructions”.

The Club caters for those with special needs and has a Coach specifically for this area. Please contact the Club for more details. They are based in Foldcroft, Harlow, CM20 1SE.
