Cricket / Tue 29th Aug 2017 at 02:49pm

Billericay 1st XI 181-3 beat Harlow 1st XI 180 all out.

Harlow 1st XI was always going to have a hard game away to promotion chasing Billericay and so it proved. Having won the toss Harlow elected to bat knowing that any score above 200 would at least give them maximum batting points in their relegation battle. Harlow got off to a steady start but then lost openers Hafiz Yawar Afzal for 44 run out and Alan Jones LBW for 23. After that with the exception of Ahmed Khawaja 41 it was not a good day with the bat overall. Try as they might only three other batsman got into double figures and then only just surpassing it with Harlow finally being all bowled out for 180 with 2 balls remaining. Billericay wanting the win themselves to stay in the promotion hunt set about the task of chasing down the 181 runs required. An early breakthrough saw their opener David Hinnigan out for 14 LBW Luke Heskett. After that the Billericay side settled down and scored steadily but consistently losing just two more wickets, one for Alan Jones and one for young Nathan Khelawon to reach their target in 37.4 overs to maintain 2nd place in the league. Harlow are now 15 points from safety with just two matches too play the next against promotion chasing 3rd place Hadleigh and Thundersley. A defeat here would almost certainly relegate Harlow after a promising start.

Harlow 2nd XI 73 all out lost to Old Southendians and Southchurch 2nd XI 95 all out.

Old Southendians having won the toss decided to bat. This after just 32 overs appeared not to be a good decision at that time as they were bowled out for just 95 runs. Reece Galvin bowled 4 overs for 10 runs taking 5 wickets, with Callum Sykes taking 3 for 22. It seemed all that the Harlow team had to do was just bide their time to get the runs for what looked a simple victory. It was to go disastrously wrong with just Shamsher Ali 27 not out the only one offering any resistance, next top scorer was George Messenger with just 12. A bad result, still leaves them not completely safe from relegation only improved by the teams below them also losing.

The 3rd and 4th XI both won their matches. £rd Xi bowling out their opposition for just 162 and in reply scored 168-1. 4th XI scored 229 with Simon Tasker scoring 92 and Ilhan Mustafa 50 and in reply restricted the ooposition to just 213.

Harlow 5th XI won the title in Division six of the Herts and Essex league. They played 12 matches winning 11 and had one abandonment. They won the title by a massive 59 points. With the bat Captain Jack Sykes scores 866 runs and taking 11 wickets with Ben Yeats with 384 and 9 wickets. There was 21 wickets also for N McCarthy.
