SATURDAY saw Harlow Town 1st XI going into the final game of the season level on points with Westcliff on Sea knowing only one could go up with Champions Leigh on Sea. Ardleigh Green were the hosts and opted to bat first on a moist track meaning promotion was out of Town’s hands, with Westcliff batting first and would secure more points if they were to win.

Ardleigh Green’s openers got off to a strong start putting 64 on for the first wicket however the game was ultimately dominated by two Town players in Ben Eversden & Joe Holland. Eversden removed both openers and ripped the heart out of the side with figures of 7 for 49 to reduce Green to 131 all out.

Smaller chases are sometimes the hardest and Town did lose wickets at regular intervals. However Holland was at his imperious best with an unbeaten 90 off 72 balls to see the team home with skipper Scott Alderson to win by 5 wickets. Then it was the waiting game, awaiting the result of Westcliff. After multiple updates it was confirmed that Westcliff could only manage a draw against Walthamstow, so the celebrations began.

HTCC’s promotion into SNEL Division 2 will see the local derby in 2018 as Marigolds club, Harlow dropped down from Division 1. This will be the first time that both will feature in the league for many years and is a prospect for both clubs to savour.

2nd XI Drew at Home to Old Brentwoods. Chasing 196 they managed to reach 137 – 4, Jay Lowles with 3-44 & 46 not out which left seconds 6th in the table.

It was also a big final game for the 3rd XI who were away to South Woodford and needed to win to guarantee their stay in Division 3. Batting first, Town declared on 204 for 7 from 41 overs with Jack Bailey crashing 63. Town started well taking early wickets however South Woodford’s 8th wicket partnership put the pressure back on town as both batsman scored fifties. However the opener’s Morrell & Goddard Snr removed both late on with number 11 to follow shortly resulting in a town win by 17 runs. Vic Goddard finishing with 6 for 45.

A good finish for the 4th team who had endured a tough season as they hosted UpmInster. Town skittled the visitors out for 89 with Francesca Cavadino the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 24. In reply, Town made it a close one and scraped over the line to win by 2 wickets thanks to 50 from Marko Jergic.
