Upper Clapton 0 v 22 Romford and Gidea

EPPING Upper Clapton’s hopes of recording a first League victory were scuppered at Romford GP as they failed to convert territory and possession into points. Each game has thrown up positives but Clapton’s inability to develop a cohesive game plan and convert possession has been far too apparent.

At Romford, there were times when EUCRFC monopolised the ball through a solid first phase base but resolute defence from the home side just prevented converting into points. In contrast, by half time Romford had taken their chances and opened the scoring with a penalty goal and followed this with a converted and unconverted try; 15-0 to the home side.

Matters were evenly contested for much of the second half; the only score a converted try to Romford coming in the very latter stages. Yet again in this game, EUCRFC were reminded as to how competitive this League is going to be for the remainder of this season.

The next challenge to present itself to Epping Upper Clapton is that of Old Cooperians. They were promoted with EUCRFC in 2015/16 and have started this campaign in positive fashion. Clapton will want to settle on a team which can give them the confidence and attacking options that can capitalise on the possession they are more than capable of generating.
