Harlow Councillor calls for bold new vision to fight injustices at the Conservative Party Conference

MEMBERS of the Conservative Party gathered earlier this week for their annual conference in Manchester. Old Harlow Councillor, Joel Charles, was selected by national party officials to address the main conference hall during the ‘Fighting Injustices’ part of the main agenda on Tuesday. This is a privilege because conference hall speeches are normally reserved for senior members of the national party and government. Councillor Charles spoke directly after the Secretary of State for Health had delivered his keynote address.

In his speech, Councillor Charles spoke passionately about ensuring the party delivers a bold new vision for addressing health and care needs across the country. He also took the opportunity to raise awareness about social isolation. Councillor Charles said that loneliness is a human tragedy, particularly for older people who do not have the support of family or friends.

Councillor Joel Charles, speaking after his address in Manchester, said:

“I was delighted to address the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester. My speech focused on how the government can deliver a bold new vision for health and care services across the country. Good progress is being made and steps undertaken by the government to invest in new health technology, methods to tackle mental ill-health and long-term conditions are making a difference. As a one nation party, it is our responsibility to shape a future where people from all backgrounds are able to live a healthy life.”
