ON Thursday night, Ian Beckett, Harlow Labour Councillor, along with his colleagues organised the first ever Christmas light up at Bush Fair as a way to bring the close knit community together; the event consisted of late night shopping, dance music, a visit from santa at the toy shop, the Passmores choir as well as an open mic night at Cafe Pizzaria.

Ian and Steve took to the stage to countdown the Christmas tree lights being switched on, welcoming everyone warmly. Thanking everyone that helped in the event the crowd that had formed as well as people filming it from the bedroom windows cheered the organisers (and santa) on in anticipation.

Once the tree had lit up the square, Passmores Academy students began carolling merry Christmas songs from Jingle Bells to Silent Night. People joined in with the choir making it feel like a truly festive night.

In an interview after the event Ian said: “It’s been a fantastic day, it has been a real community day…it’s cold, but people have hung around and I think the reason people have hung around is because they’ve enjoyed themselves.”
