Essex Police begin Christmas anti-drink driving campaign

News / Fri 8th Dec 2017 am31 11:35am

SEVENTEEN people have been arrested during the first five days of our Christmas anti-drink and drug driving campaign.

The campaign launched on Friday, December 1 and is running until Monday, January 1.

Since it started, 12 people have been arrested on suspicion of drink driving offences and five people have been arrested on suspicion of drug driving offences.

Adam Pipe, Casualty Reduction Manager, said: “Drink and drug driving is completely unacceptable.

“It’s reckless and destroys lives. No officer wants to knock on someone’s door to tell them a loved one isn’t coming home.

“Imagine being the person responsible for an entire family’s grief? It’s just not worth it.

“I believe communities around Essex feel the same way about that we do and I’d urge you to contact us if you have information about a drink or drug driver.

“My message to anyone drink or drug driving is we will catch you and will bring you to justice. If you’re convicted of a drink or drug driving offence committed during our Christmas campaign we will issue your name and picture.”
If you have any information about a drink or drug driver please contact us on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
