Daniel Farmer confirmed as 2018 club captain for Harlow Town Cricket Club

WITH 2018 slowly approaching last Friday saw Harlow Town Cricket Club host their Annual General Meeting, with this comes the confirmation of captains for the new season.

After a successful 2017 season for the first XI which finished in promotion to Shepherd Neame Essex League Division 2, Town were looking for a new club captain with Scott Alderson stepping down from the role. 24-year-old Daniel Farmer was confirmed as his successor. Farmer has been an ever present member of the first team for the past 6 seasons and has developed himself into a key all-rounder for the side.

Farmer commented, “Having been with the club since the age of 14, it is a great honour to have now become Club Captain. Thanks to Scott for guiding us to promotion last season, I hope I can build on this achievement”.

When asked about his expectations for the new season, “Division 2 looks to be a very competitive league which we have found out in previous seasons and this will be a good challenge for us, one of which we are looking forward to”.

2018 will also see Town play local rivals Harlow. This will be the first time in several decades where both first XI’s meet in a competitive league fixture, “I think that it’s great for the town to see both sides play each other, and hopefully it will provide some great cricket”.

Farmer’s first competitive match in charge will be away in the League Cup to South Woodford on Saturday 8th April.

Scott Alderson was confirmed as 2nd XI captain, Vic Goddard as 3rd XI and Marko Jergic as 4th XI with the 4’s being entered in to the Herts & Essex Cricket League for the new season.

Daniel Gleeson will take up the role as captain of the Sunday XI.

Chairman Lee Richardson summarised, “I’m very excited for the new season, we have a fantastic set of new captains ready to lead their teams through what I’m sure will be an excellent season”.
