Harlow Labour Party with support from UNISON (Princess Alexandra Hospital Branch) and Harlow Trades Union Council is providing a subsidised coach service to take Harlow residents wishing to participate in the emergency rally to Save our NHS to and from central London.

The rally will take place this Saturday, February 3 and is organised by the People’s Assembly, the national campaign against austerity.

The coach will depart from Harlow Bus Station (Stand 14 near Ali Barbers), Terminus Street, Harlow CM20 1EY at 10:20am and return from London at 4:15pm. Parking is available at the Terminus Street car park.

Tickets will cost £7.58 per person and can be bought on-line by visiting Eventbrite and searching for “Events in Harlow, United Kingdom”. Alternatively, people can call the event organiser, David Forman on 07853 094195 to book tickets.

David Forman, who is a member of Harlow Labour Party and Harlow TUC Secretary, said today: “The NHS is in crisis. It is no longer a one-off winter crisis; it is a case of chronic under-funding, privatisation and asset stripping.

“An 81-year-old Essex pensioner dying due to a near four-hour wait for an ambulance is a sign of this.

“Here in Harlow, we have countless examples of how the crisis is affecting the lives of residents.

“Princess Alexandra Hospital’s (PAH) A&E department is the worst performing in Essex and regularly struggles to meet the minimum national four hour waiting standard due to staff shortages and lack of space and poor facilities.

“The nurse vacancy rate at for 2017 was 25% and physical infrastructure is unable to accommodate patients in a manner appropriate for a 21st century hospital.

“I’m sure people will be horrified to learn that water ingress and sewage egress in some vital areas present real risks to the integrity of the hospital.

“I know these things first hand because my wife, Cllr Waida Forman, is a nurse at the hospital and has been for over 23 years. What she and the dedicated, hard-working staff have to put up with is completely unacceptable.

“The NHS touches every single one of our lives. It is envied the world over. But we are in real danger of losing it unless the government commits to urgent and sustained investment and they will only do that if we tell them they will lose their jobs if they don’t.

“The invitation to join us on the coach is open to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

“If people really care about the state of our National Health Service, then I urge them to join us this Saturday for the emergency rally.

“The day will be a celebration of all that unites our community and I hope to see many people there.”
