Lee Valley U13 and U15 Open

ON Sunday Lee Valley hosted the latest in its series of indoor events for age groups. Five athletes from Harlow took part. Katie Lee ran in the U13 girl’s 800m. She completed the four laps in 2.53.29 minutes.

Sophia Bridle also competed at U13 level. She took part in the shot putt and recorded a best distance of 6.75m. She then moved on to long jump and smashed the club’s age group record with a best distance of 4.23m. Hot on the heels of her success in the county event last week, she ran the 200m and shaved a thousandth of a second of her own record, which now stands at 28.51s.

Millie Upton, former holder of the U13 long jump record, but now U15 had a busy day. She ran two rounds of 60m hurdles, two rounds of 60m sprint and also competed in the long jump. She ran a best time of 10.83s in the hurdles, set a new PB in the sprint of 9.2s and jumped 4.16m in the long jump.

Training partners Freddie Henderson and Marley Sarling both ran the U15 60m and 200m sprints. Henderson set a new PB in the 60m of 7.79s. Sarling broke the club record for the distance and reduced it to 7.70s. The record has now changed hands three times in four weeks since the turn of the year. Also following this weekend’s efforts, the club currently has four athletes in the top fifty of the country for the distance. In the 200m both boys ran well but neither could lower their PB: Henderson ran 25.95s and Sarling 25.18s.
