Shemar

British Universities Championships, Sheffield 16-18 Feb

HARLOW Athletic Club member, Shemar Boldizsar, ran at the BUCS championships in the colours of his university, St Mary’s. He competed in both the 60m and 200m events. On Friday he managed fourth in his 60m heat in 7.19s.

On Sunday he went through three rounds of 200m to reach the final. He won his heat in 22.27 to progress to the semi final. He won his semi final in a new PB time of 21.45s. On paper he was only fifth quickest of those contesting the final.

The final was keenly fought and literally came down to the line between three athletes. Boldizsar was given the verdict and took the title by the slimmest of margins, just four-hundredths of a second. His final time of 21.36s was another new PB.

To put this time in perspective, it was exactly the same time as that of Elliott Powell, who was fourth in the British Indoor Championships at Birmingham over the same weekend. Boldizsar is now ranked as the eighth fastest man in the country for the distance.
