Students Impress Employers at World of Work Day

YEAR 10 students were put through their paces at Passmores’ annual World of Work day, when they each attended a careers event which included a mock interview.

Held off-site at the Park Inn Hotel, the interviews were conducted by twenty-six local employers who willingly gave up their time to support the school. For most of the students, this was the first time they had ever presented themselves for an interview. But despite the inevitable nerves, the students dressed to impress and were well prepared for the challenge.

In addition to the mock interviews, the students also attended a range of group activities and workshops provided by top employers such as the Department of Work and Pensions, Santander, Hotel Calamity and Make Happen. Feedback was highly positive, with Ian Hudson of the Harlow Chamber of Commerce commenting that that he had met with ‘an impressive group of students’ and a representative from the Ministry of Justice writing: ‘great young people, polite, well mannered’.

Passmores Careers Advisor, Julie Kay said: ‘as well as preparing students academically, our aim is to equip students for life after school. The day was a complete success and has helped our young people understand what to expect next year when they start applying for post 16 opportunities.’
