Sport / Wed 14th Mar 2018 at 11:13am

K2, Crawley, was this week’s venue for Harlow Judo Club. This is a Level 3, point scoring event for those needing points to achieve their black belt, and was well attended by Clubs from near and far therefore, the level of competition was going to test the young team. Four players, Eli Balski (8), Thomas Norman (11), Owen Lambert (12) and Lewis Carter (13) were Harlow Judo Club’s representatives this week at the 4-mat event, and all returned with a medal in hand.

First up was Eli in the Minors AA category. He listened well to instructions but inexperience proved to get the better of him on this occasion however he returned with a Bronze medal.

Also competing at the same time, was Thomas in the Minors category. He put up a brave fight but despite losing in the first 2 rounds, managed to claim a win in the last fight to claim a Bronze medal.

Owen and Lewis both competed in the Pre-Cadet section in their individual weight groups again, at similar times but Head Coach, Mick Ellis, was able to coach all his players despite all being on separate mats. Owen proved his ability by winning all his fights in great style which enabled him to claim the Gold medal. Lewis, who made a comeback to competition after having time out, did not fail to impress his Coach. He also proved himself by taking a Bronze medal winning one of his fights with a superb Ippon win.

“I am very impressed with my team, especially Eli and Thomas, competing at this high level. It isn’t easy to compete but to step out and come back with a medal, I am very proud of them all” said Head Coach, Mick Ellis,
