THE prestigious Who Will Care? Awards 2018 make a much anticipated return in May and nominations are now open.

The date of the 2018 awards has now been confirmed as Wednesday 23 May and will see a celebration of volunteering across the county.

The awards bring together communities and individuals across Essex who are working to make Essex and even greater place to live, work and visit.

Cabinet Member for Culture, Communities and Customer, Cllr Sue Barker said: “Last year one in three people in Essex undertook some kind of volunteering which is amazing. These awards recognise those that make a real difference to people’s lives by giving up their time to help others and their local communities.

“I am delighted that the awards are back for another year and look forward to hearing about all of the wonderful people nominated. If you know an individual, group or business that deserves to be recognised please nominate them today.”

This year there are seven categories:

The Business Award – For commercial organisations who have made an impact in their community.

The Voluntary Community Organisation Award – reflecting innovation or outstanding service delivery by a third sector organisation.

Individual Volunteer Award (Young Person) – For volunteers aged under 18 who have demonstrated outstanding commitment within their community. This may be something they have done independently or in connection with a charity/community group or employer.

Volunteer Team Award- A group or two or more volunteers of any age who have made an outstanding contribution to their community either independently or with a charity, community group or their employer

Innovation Award- For social enterprises, commercial organisation and individuals who have demonstrated innovation to support the community
Individual Adult Volunteer Award- Awarded for demonstrating outstanding commitment within their community either independently or through a charity/community group or through their employer.

Individual Volunteer – overcoming adversity- Awarded for demonstrating outstanding commitment within their community either independently or through a charity/community group or through their employer, whilst overcoming personal adversity.
