Politics / Fri 13th Apr 2018 pm30 05:18pm
TWO national figures in the socialist Momentum movement have backed one of the candidates to be Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Harlow.
Journalists, Owen Jones and Paul Mason have both supported Laura McAlpine.
Owen Jones said: “We need people like Laura as candidates who can press a transformative socialist message to those sick of Halfon’s spin and self-serving elite.
Former BBC journalist Paul Mason said” We need a new generation of Labour candidates who can cut through the cynicism and reach out to thise who feel alienated from party politics.
“Laura would bring new ideas, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for the people of Harlow.
The candidates are:
Rebecca Denness
Eugenie Harvey
Waida Foreman
Laura McAlpine
The decision will be made at a special hustings at Mark Hall Academy in Harlow on Sunday afternoon.
Now then. This should be a test of the shiny new Tory "Respect" pledge, ordering councillors, candidates and supporters to actually not be insulting online. The field for Labour Party challenger to is a very strong one indeed. Each is committed to making Harlow reach its full future potential, and dedicated to the people of the town and understanding of their needs and concerns. Any one of which would I think best Bob, both with their personal energy and enthusiasm and as part of a movement that shows that there is an alternative, that poverty is not inevitable and will make a positive difference to this country. It needs it like rarely before. Whoever wins the vote will have the support of the other candidates and a wider supporting team perhaps unrivalled in Essex, ready to take the fight to the Tories and give us a representative to be proud of.
I am fed up with all the hardworking family rubbish that Halfon spouts but being backed by owen jones?
The new goddess of local politics. You're having a laugh,"transformative socialism", is this the new slogan for the mis-guided ? What's going to be transformed ? The very regular socialist commentator, jfq, is spouting his usual tripe about the REDS being our saviour, he wishes. It's all been said before. Remember, LABOUR brought our country to near bankruptcy when they last got their sweaty paws on the treasury, " all the monies gone, we've spent it". Who really fancies that lot again. VOTE LABOUR or MOMENTUM at your PERIL.
So yeah, Micky. That "respect" thang...
R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, take care, TCB.
Looking like the Party is airing divisions in public: great just what Labour needs guys
Something seriously ironic about anyone from Labour talking about Respect! They are always first to throw the insults and vile allegations! Just look at jtq....
I deal in facts, not allegations. Fact: there has been a public sector pay freeze in this country for the last 7 years forcing our most important workers into using food banks. Fact: hospital waiting times are up to their highest level since records began. Fact: homelessness, child poverty, hate crime and knife crime are all on the increase. Fact: since the EU referendum, called exclusively to quell a civil war in Tory ranks (that went well!) the value of the pound has collapsed, inflation is up and business confidence in the future of the economy is practically nonexistent with the government's non-plan for Brexit.
If debate is at the level of Ya Boo politics and slogans no party looks sufficiently rational nor intelligent to govern. Facts and figures from respected an independent sources please.
You can Google everything I've said. No "ya boo", facts all the way.
jfq has a very short, convenient for him, memory. Tony Bliar has admitted, that he hasn't any idea how many legal, or illegal immigrants came over to England when he was in power. In excess of millions I do believe. Now we are seeing the massive increase, a, population explosion, that has produced how many more children ? The fall out from this is, one of the main reasons why the NHS has it's back to the wall. Budgets that have been set for years, could never have envisaged the damage that the Bliars policies would cause us, later down the line. FACT, not like some who peddle doom and despair. I have heard, maybe rumour, that when the true results of the financial disaster, that had been left by B & B, were calculated, an offer to the REDS to take over Parliament again, was declined. VOTE LABOUR or m at YOUR PERIL.
Is this some sort of strange joke?
