Laura McAlpine

THE PROSPECTIVE parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party in Harlow is Laura McAlpine.

Ms McAlpine fought off three other candidates to win the right to try and unseat Conservative MP, Robert Halfon.

The losing candidates were: Eugenie Harvey, Waida Forman and Rebecca Denness.

The decision was made at a meeting of the Harlow Constituency Labour Party at Mark Hall Academy.

Ms McAlpine is the grand-daughter of former Harlow councillor, Jean McAlpine.

She is also standing for council in the ward of Staple Tye.

Congratulations to Laura and to all the candidates that made up a very competitive field, this showed the depth of talent in the local party, and which makes it a real force in local government. With Laura, Labour has a very strong alternative and can offer a clear choice between the grey, grinding austerity of the Tories and the promise of something better, something positive, for the people of Harlow and beyond. The next election can't come soon enough, and the opportunity to show the Conservative Party the door. It's long overdue.

I'm old enough to know that when the Tories are in this much of a flap, they know they're under real threat. And they're scared.

Laura McAlpine has eloquently pointed out that one of the starkest illustrations of what is wrong with the way this country is governed is the fact that there are people sleeping rough in the Town Centre just yards from empty accommodation in Occasio House, a building that was closed as a result of the government’s policies of economic austerity. It is obvious to me that Ms McAlpine is passionately committed to fighting to right the injustices inflicted daily upon the people of Harlow and the neighbouring villages. Harlow Labour Party has chosen a Prospective Parliamentary Candidate who will stand up for tenants against greedy parasite landlords, for workers against inhumane dictatorial employers, for the users of public services against the austerity mongers and the privateers, someone who will stand up for working class people against the fat cats who have looted the economy.
