Old Harlow 2

OLD HARLOW seems to be ward that is getting busier and busier. Not so long ago, it was the rural edge of Harlow as it had been since referenced in the Doomesday Book (Mulberry Green).

In 2018, there are modern issues such as the development on Gilden Way, New Hall, London Road, Churchgate Street. The times they are a changing. The spectre of crime casts a shadow over the area as well, from the high street down to the Oasis Hotel.

This is a solid Conservative seat. They won by 163 votes in 2012, 316 in 2014 and 235 in 2016.

Conservative councillor Joel Charles is a class act. We are pretty sure that one day, he will be an MP. Councillor Charles’ constant scrutiny of the ruling Labour group is always impressive. Labour may feel that he grandstands but others may say Joel has an eye for keeping key issues in the limelight.

One of Labour’s keen young campaigners is standing for the first time. Liam will enjoy the experience and we hope that he gets his chance in a more competitive ward soon. Infact the changing of the guard may be a subject we will focus on soon.

As for the Lib Dems. No we don’t know either but we will ask.

YH Prediction: Cons Hold

Joel Charles Conservative
Liam Kerrigan Labour
Christopher Millington Liberal Democrats

Stranger things have happened. Like for example a prime minister calling an election thinking she'd get a landslide yet ending up in hock to the DUP and only being in office (not in power) because, catastrophically awful that she is, it's the best the Tories have. This may well be closer than conventional wisdom would have you believe.

All very flattering to call the councillor a class act. But the Tories have a glass jaw in Harlow.
