BEST-SELLING children’s author Tom Fletcher has today launched his second book club exclusive to WHSmith. Tom has selected 10 brilliant books for 7 to 11-year olds that offer readers a wide variety of titles by both established and debut authors covering a range of reading abilities and interests.
The WHSmith Tom Fletcher Book Club was set to up help families discover exciting children’s books and establish a love of reading for pleasure through offering a carefully curated selection to choose from.-
Tom Fletcher said, “I am delighted to be announcing my second book club with WHSmith. That’s right, it’s round two…BOOK CLUB – THE SEQUEL, BIGGER, BOLDER…BOOKIER (yes that’s a made up word!). As a parent I know how challenging it can be to identify the right books and how rewarding it can be when you do find the right fit. So I’ve selected ten brilliant books that I think tick all the boxes and will get your kids eyeballs away from those touchscreens and into some great books! I hope they’ll find their imaginations fuelled by the book club books and feel inspired to start writing and creating stories themselves.”
To mark the launch of book club 2, today Tom joined book club authors and illustrators for a day of activities to bring their books alive for 500 children across primary schools in Kent.
Alastair Aldous, WH Smith Books Business Unit Director, added: “We are delighted to announce the launch of the second Tom Fletcher Book Club, just in time for half term. The book club features ten children’s books that Tom has chosen for their humour, heart, adventure and imagination. Tom Fletcher is one of the UK’s bestselling authors for children. Tom’s passion for reading combined with these ten fantastic stories, will ensure even more young readers get involved in our book club, get away from their screens, and enjoy a book this summer!”
To encourage children to interact with the books in a fun and engaging way a writing competition has been launched in partnership with Teach Primary where entrants are invited to send in their stories based on any of Tom’s book club titles and the winner will receive £2,000 worth of books for their school.
The full list of book club titles are available across WHSmith High Street stores and online at whsmith.co.uk from Tuesday 22nd May and customers can enjoy all books at half price until the 7th June 2018.
Jonathan Douglas, Director of the National Literacy Trust, said: “Children who enjoy reading are more likely to succeed at school, at work and in life, and book clubs can play a crucial role in kick-starting these reading journeys. Research shows that book clubs can help to boost children’s confidence in reading, encourage them to read more often, and support them to discover a broader range of reading materials and genres. We hope that Tom Fletcher’s Book Club, in partnership with WHSmith, will inspire a new generation of children to fall in love with reading for a lifetime.”
