Pupils Join Together for a Daring Adventure

THERE was plenty of action and adventure for Year 6 pupils from Purford Green Primary and Potter Street Academy recently, when they visited Kingswood Activity Centre in Kent.

The three-day residential was the first time many of the children had been away from home without their parents, and was a chance to try out new experiences and enjoy a taste of independence.

Among the range of daring activities on offer was abseiling, fencing, zipwire, 3G Swing and the Aerial Walkway. For the bravest of all, the ‘Leap of Faith’ presented pupils with the challenge of climbing to the top of a 10 metre pole before jumping to catch the mid-air suspended trapeze.

Year 6 teacher, Nick Newton, who accompanied the pupils, said: ‘The children learnt problem solving skills and team co-operation, as well as improving their resilience and facing fears. Getting the two schools together was a great opportunity; the children got on really well and were a credit to us.

“Both sets of pupils came together, especially at the disco on the last night. They were all up dancing and towards the end of the evening a mass dance-off broke out among the boys! It was a great experience and wonderful to see the children overcoming barriers, doing things they wouldn’t normally do and really supporting each other’.
