Countess of Wessex Visit to Razed Roof: An apology

Lifestyle / Sat 30th Jun 2018 am30 10:49am

ON July 1st, Your Harlow will be five years old. In that time, we have published over 11,000 stories. As a member of a press regulator (Impress) and as a member of the advisory board of the Cardiff University Independent News Network, we not only have to hold yourself to the rules, regulations and standards but in some ways, have to place ourselves a few steps above.

Last week, we got the tone wrong on a story regarding the visit of the Countess of Wessex to the Harlow Playhouse to see the Razed Roof Company. Our piece was petulant and petty. It upset members of Razed Roof and we think the verbal kicking we got from some readers was well deserved.

No yeah buts, no no buts, we go the tone wrong. Journalists, by our own admission are notoriously thin skinned creatures which is a remarkable condition when they expect everyone around them to have the hides of rhinos.

So once again, we would like to apologise to all concerned.

i had noticed in recent months a couple of articles which were quite divisive. Harlow is a great town, let’s keep YourHarlow great too. I’m glad that YourHarlow have reflected and your apology is appreciated.

Michael – you did get both the tone and the story wrong – but thank you for your apology. It is fully accepted. And thank you once again to the Countess of Wessex, The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Harlow Playhouse, Harlow Council, Razed Roof volunteers, friends and supporters; and last but not least to the Razed Roof cast and to all of those involved in the production of Trisomy 21 who made the 26th of June such a memorable and enjoyable morning.
