Northern Home Counties Split Grade & The Don Werner Memorial Championships – High Wycombe

SIX young players from Harlow Judo Club travelled to High Wycombe to compete in the Northern Home Counties Split Grade & The Don Werner Memorial Championships event held at High Wycombe.

The competition was split into 3 sections – Red & Yellow Belts, Orange & Green Belts and Blue & Brown Belts. The Club had 5 players compete in the Red & Yellow Belt Section and 1 player in the Orange & Green Belt Section.

Millie Morgan (9) and Lydia Herod (8), both fought in the Red Belt section and in the same weight category. Millie fought very well and whilst very determined in her efforts, lost in the final but came away with a well earned Silver medal. Lydia, still new to competitions, also battled hard but inexperience and nerves got the better of her but still managed to claim a Bronze medal, despite facing her team member in one of the rounds. Next up were Eli Balski (8) and George Franks (11), also in the same weight group. They both fought valiantly and also had to fight each other, George took the Gold medal and Eli secured a Bronze medal. After a little bit of wait, Sorin Petrica (12) was up next to fight. His group was small and managed to claim the Club’s second Gold medal.

Last competitor for the Club, was Owen Lambert (12), in the Orange & Green Belt Section. With a step up to his new weight group, Owen showed good technique to claim the Club’s third Gold medal.

Head Coach Mick Ellis said “Overall, I am very pleased with the team’s performance today – they all fought very well, listened to my instructions and end of the day, they did all the hard work to secure their medals against some very good Clubs. “
