SUPER CHAUHAN CUTS DOWN OAKFIELD PARKONIANS
HARLOW Town visited Oakfield Parkonians on Saturday and found a somewhat sporting wicket which was well below the standard required. Skipper Dan Farmer, on winning the toss on a pitch which was going to deteriorate even more, chose to bat first as a win batting first would give Town 25 points. Openers Ashley Alderson, 14 and Shaun Alderson, 21, got Town off to a reasonable start, followed by 51 from the in form Suraj Chauhan. But the Home side, taking advantage of the poor surface used their spinners to great effect, Ravi Teja 4-45 and Abdul Razzaq 4-7 off just 7 overs, ran through the rest of the Town batting with Town struggling to 105 all out in 35.1 overs.
With such a low score to chase Oakfield must have thought they were home and dry, but they had not reckoned with Town’s “Never Say Die” attitude as their sharp fielding complemented the fine bowling of Man of the Match Suraj Chauhan with a devastating 13 over spell of medium fast pace bowling saw him pick up six Oakfield wickets for just 24 runs.
Off spinner Jibran Azam operating at the other end supported Chauhan with 3 wickets for just 12 runs conceded. As they ran through the Home side’s batting only Ubaid Kiani, 15, Aman Ali, 14 and Ravi Teja, 12, getting into double figures. Dan Farmer picked up the other wicket to fall and Town took 25 much needed points as they grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat with Oakfield all out in 26.3 overs for 59.
Man of the Match was undoubtedly Suraj Chauhan with 51 runs and 6 wickets.
Next week Town entertain Leigh on Sea who, after a bright start to the season find themselves in a relegation battle.
