HARLOW Judo Club was represented by Owen Lambert (12), George Franks (11), Eli Balski (8), Millie Morgan (9) and Lydia Herod (8) in the Eastern Area Open. They travelled to Thetford, Norfolk to compete in the 4 mat area event.
Owen competed in the Pre-Cadets section and the rest of the team competed in the Minors boys/girls group (age 8 to 11) and the standard of Judo was as usual, very high and everyone who attended, was not disappointed.
First up was Owen in the Pre-Cadets section (age 12 to 13). He showed great judo techniques to win all his fights via Ippon (maximum score) in his own weight group to take the Gold medal and become the Eastern Area Champion in his weight category – another area under his belt.
Next up were Eli and George in the Minor Boys category. Both boys were in the same weight group but fortunately, did not have to face each other during their rounds. George won all his fights to make it through to the final round where unfortunately he lost, but came away with a well earned Silver Medal. He to, displayed great judo techniques throughout his contests. Eli came up against very good opposition but unfortunately was out fought and ended up unplaced.
Last up were Lydia and Millie in the Minor Girls category. They too were in the same weight group and found it very tough going. Despite trying their hardest, they too were out fought against more experienced and higher graded players.
Coach Mick Ellis, with assistance from Thomas Lambert, said “I am very pleased with my team’s performances today – they all fought extremely well and against some very good Clubs. Even though some players didn’t medal today, lessons have been learnt”.
