2018 Northern Home Counties Area Open – Hatfield

YOUNGSTERS Owen Lambert (12) and Sam Cobbin-Brown (11) competed in the 2018 Northern Home Counties Area Open at the University of Hertfordshire Sports Village, Hatfield. This high level event is split over 2 days but the 2 players from Harlow Judo Club took part in day 1, Pre-Cadets categories.

First up was Owen (12), competing in his final year as a Pre-Cadet in his weight category, before moving up to the Cadet section next September. Owen was on top form and won all his fights strongly in his weight group to make it through to the final where he held his opponent for a wa-azari score to claim the Gold medal. He displayed great tachi-waza (standing techniques) throughout his fights, but also where necessary, pinning his opponent down in ne-waza (ground work).

Next up was Sam (11) who took part in his first competition as a Pre-Cadet. Despite displaying good judo techniques in his fights, he was unfortunately outclassed in his weight category however finished a very respectable 5th place.
