Politics / Fri 28th Sep 2018 pm30 12:01pm

THE deputy leader of the Harlow Conservatives has lost his battle to be the prospective parliamentary candidate for Ipswich.

Cllr Joel Charles was in a three way battle with Alex Deane and the winner Tom Hunt.

Mr Hunt was chosen as the party’s candidate to fight the town at the next election at a special meeting of the Ipswich Conservative Association on Thursday evening.

He was a councillor in Ely, Cambridgeshire and has already fought a seat in Doncaster in 2017.

Ipswich is a marginal seat with a Labour majority of 835.

Although disappointed, cllr Charles is highly regarded by many in the Conservative Party and many believe he will have a seat before the next general election.
