HARLOW has beaten off competition from over 100 towns, cities, regions and nations across 16 countries to become a 2018 finalist for the prestigious City Nation Place; Place Brand of the Year Award.

Discover Harlow was launched in June this year with the aim of raising the positive profile of Harlow on a regional, national and international level, to enhance the pride felt in the town and attract investment.

Through community engagement the Harlow story was developed, building a Harlow brand which focuses on three key selling points; the town’s unique collection of sculptures, its role in technological innovation and its excellent links to London.

The Harlow Ambassadors programme was set up to help promote this story, with around ninety members, from across all sectors.

The panel of international judges, experts in the field of Place Branding put Discover Harlow amongst nine finalists including; Barcelona, Eindhoven, Estonia, city of Salinas California, and Brand Scotland, recognising the value of the brands strategy, implementation and results.

City Nation Place commented when announcing the finalists: “The 2018 City Nation Place Awards have gathered more of the most innovative, creative and thorough approaches to place brand strategy than in any previous year.

“Following a thorough shortlisting process, involving additional experts to support our Jury with the unexpected scale of the task, we are delighted to announce the finalists.”

The winner will be announced at the City Nation Place 2018 Conference in London on 8 November.
