Over the border: People on East Herts housing register to bid weekly

Politics / Sun 18th Nov 2018 pm30 05:04pm

PEOPLE on East Herts Council’s housing register will now be able to bid weekly instead of fortnightly for the available properties to rent. Although the change won’t increase the number of homes available it will reduce the wait and increase the turnover.

Currently people on the register look through a published list of available homes and can express an interest in up to three properties that match their needs. Each week the council will rank the bids in point order and forward the top three bidders to the relevant housing association which will then allocate the home.

Jan Goodeve, executive member for housing said: “This small change will allow people to bid more often and will make the allocation process a little speedier.”

There are currently 2,100 people on the council’s housing register.
