Big weekend in Essex for 2019
Lifestyle / Fri 23rd Nov 2018 am30 08:52am
2019 will see Visit Essex’s third Big Weekend, when hundreds of residents will be able to visit some of the county’s finest tourist attractions for FREE.
Organised by Visit Essex, the Essex Big Weekend is designed to encourage residents to rediscover the amazing things to see and do in their home county – and to then spread the word about them.
The event will see attractions across the county donating FREE tickets or experiences for residents to use on 6th and 7th April 2019. Residents can bid for available tickets to as many attractions as they wish from 21st February 2019 at www.essexbigweekend.co.uk, and two tickets per household will be allocated by ballot to the lucky winners (some family tickets will be available as well).
Dozens of attractions donate free tickets for the fun-filled weekend, and activities include free entry, tours, high-adrenaline experiences and family days out. Visit Essex Tourism Marketing and PR Manager Carol Jolly said: “We were thrilled with the keen response to the Essex Big Weekend in 2018 from local businesses, and want to make 2019 even bigger and better.
The Big Weekend is ideal to kick-start the tourist season, but it’s also a great way to reignite excitement for the county amongst those who should be its biggest advocates – Essex’s residents.
It’s very easy to forget or miss entirely the wonderful, unique and heart-warming attractions – big and small – right on our doorstep. We want people to use this weekend to get out and about in Essex and spread the word about the fantastic places we have to visit for all ages.”
The Big Weekend forms part of Visit Essex’s Live Local Love Local campaign, which aims to strengthen Essex’s tourism offer.
Tourism attractions and hotels that would like to be part in the event can sign up by the 25th January here:

Big Weekend is also part of the national English Tourism Week celebrations, organised by VisitEngland, to highlight the importance of tourism as one of the fastest growing sectors in the national economy.
