Letter to Editor: Saving Harlow libraries: Time for plans not protests

Politics / Mon 17th Dec 2018 at 05:49pm

Dear Editor,

LABOUR councillors would be better off spending their time looking at and following up an article on the BBC’s website today to find out how a London Borough has transformed its libraries and increased their footfall as a result.

Instead of sending a letter to Essex County Council (ECC), they should be acting as ‘community champions’ and bring together local groups who might want to share space in the libraries and thus share the costs involved in providing a library service.

It was made clear by ECC officers at Staple Tye library last week, that ECC would be receptive to suggestions received but would not be proactive in finding them, other than holding the consultation exhibitions now being held.

Bottom line, instead of standing outside with placards, come up with practical solutions or our libraries will close.

Good point well made. Unfortunately the Labour party In Harlow are a one trick pony stuck in their student union mind set.
