HARLOW’S Princess Alexandra Hospital to keep Domestics services in-house, after campaign with Robert Halfon MP
Late last night, the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital confirmed to staff that it would be keeping its domestics services in-house, after a long-standing campaign opposing proposals to outsource these services, led by the Domestics Team, Robert Halfon MP and Unison.
The Trust has taken the decision to halt its process of market-testing and will work on making improvements to domestics services within the NHS.
Brilliant news that @NHSHarlow are keeping domestics services in-house! This means all of our hospital cleaning team, many of whom have worked incredibly hard for years, will be keeping their jobs! It's been a pleasure working with you on this! @rachael28748696 #SavedOurDomestics pic.twitter.com/Czpn2QbxGR

Robert Halfon, MP for Harlow, has worked closely with the Domestics Team over many months, meeting with them to discuss their concerns about job security, after they wrote to him to ask for his help.
Robert has been instrumental in the campaign, urging the Chief Executive of the Trust, Lance McCarthy, to end the market-testing of services and raising the Domestics Team’s concerns with him directly in person. He has also brought this campaign to Parliament, tabling a Government motion to express his support for keeping services in-house.
Robert said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital Trust have decided to keep domestic services in-house at the Princess Alexandra NHS Hospital.
“I’ve been working really hard on this with the Domestics team – raising it in the House of Commons, tabling a Government motion, meeting with the Chief Executive and writing to him – and it is a tribute to the outstanding hard work of our Domestics Team, many of whom have been working at our hospital for decades.”
