FOLLOWING on from the outstanding success at the Essex County Levels competition, representatives from Harlow Gymnastics club qualified for the general gymnastics’ East region levels final in Ipswich. The gymnasts competed against all the county finalists from top clubs across Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.
St Marks student Millie Upton (14) finished in a commendable 8th place on vault in the level 5 age 13/15 regional event after qualifying by winning the trophy and gold medal in the county competition.
Eleven-year-old Charlotte Smith achieved the bronze medal on bars in the county level 3 age 11/12 event, and went on to place 13th in the regional event.
Fifteen-year-old St Mark’s student Brooke Walker also qualified for the level 5 age 16/18 event after receiving overall first place trophy, and medals for floor, vault and beam, but was unable to compete due to injury.
Club co-owner Peter James said, “This competition in particular, is entered only by qualification, to qualify in the first place is an achievement within itself. Going into the final against all the eastern region, is always a challenging task, as this puts our club up against some of the leading clubs within the UK who also compete on the world stage. I am very proud of our gymnast for reaching the final, and some outstanding performances were shown on the day to place them within the top 15 in our region. Well done to everyone involved, including the gymnast, coaches, judges and of course the supporting parents.”
