East London 17 v 32 Harlow
Four Tries from Joel Drake seals Harlow Win.
HARLOW First XV produced their best performance of the season to earn a victory over previously unbeaten East London.
A fast and frantic start to the game saw both teams testing each other out. A long kick into Harlow’s half caught Harlow out. Winger Joel Drake back pedaled and tried to gather the ball only to be nudged off it by his opposing winger and with a kind bounce gathered the ball to score for East London.
With the score converted Harlow found themselves 7-0 down.
Harlow didn’t panic and with their next attacking move inside side centre Jake Hobbs broke through East London’s defence, kicking the ball through to Joel Drake to redeem himself and score Harlow’s first try.
At 7-7 East London came back at Harlow again with their pack forcing Harlow to their five metre line. A quickly run penalty produced their second try putting them back into the lead 12 -7.
Undeterred, Harlow quickly replied with Jake Hobbs making a similar break but this time floating a lovely pass to Joel Drake scoring his and Harlow’s second try.
With minutes to go for half time Drake ran in his third try making the score 12-17 at the break.
Harlow started the second half well with fly half Rick Hobbs chipping the ball over the East London defence and with a simple catch scored Harlow’s fourth try.
With the score at 12 – 24 a confident Joel Drake went on a lengthy run to score his fourth try .
East London scored a late cancellation score and with a last minute kicked penalty by Chay Clark made the final score 17 -32 to Harlow.
The hard-fought win for Harlow took it’s toll with injuries to James Lewis (a ruptured Achilles) and Scott Whitby (a fractured cheek bone).
