GE19: Former Harlow MP Bill Rammell calls Jeremy Corbyn “”the most disastrous leader that Labour has ever had.”

BILL Rammell was MP for Harlow between 1997 and 2010. Back in 1997, over 25,000 Harlow residents voted for him and he had a 10,000 majority over the Conservatives.

On Thursday night, Labour lost by over 14,000 votes and just 13,000 voted for the Labour candidate, Laura McAlpine.

We spoke to Bill and asked for his reflections on the result and where do Labour from here.

Mr Rammell praises Ms McAlpine’s campaign but he does not hold back with his criticism of Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn calling him “the most disastrous leader that Labour has ever had.”

At least Bill had the guts to state the obvious, not like the many.

Get real Bill, Laura backed Corbyn and was a Momentum shoe in for Harlow. Corbyn launched his Campaign here for goodness sake. She’s as complicit as any of the momentum mafia that has destroyed the Labour Party. Not to mention her role in the disgraceful treatment of Jon Clempner .. simply unforgivable. Ironically while you to seem eager to shift all the blame on to Corbyn , ( though deserved) this misses the point . The Labour Party needs to look at itself , and GET REAL.. This result is the Party’s collective responsibility including Laura AND yourself. Purge the McClusky puppets and the momentum muppets and the party may stand a chance in the future. Otherwise time for something new… but I think the electorate has already sent that message loud and clearly.., disappointingly trek people like you, that ought to know better, don’t seem to be listening… Sad times for labour.. but I still have faith that ultimately good people will find or create a party that truly represents them..

Mr Rammell was a junior minister during the invasion of Iraq, and is therefore complicit in an action that was a crime against international law. A crime that led to the birth of ISIS, as Mr Blair acknowledged a couple of years ago. Jeremy Corbyn opposed this war, being one of the organisers of the largest protest march in British history. Mr Corbyn was right about Iraq, and Mr Rammell was wrong.

The Labour Party in 2017 received the largest increase in its vote since 1945, under Mr Corbyn, and in 2019 received more votes, and a larger share of the vote, then it did in 2015 under Mr Miliband or in 2010 under Mr Brown.

Surveys show that re-nationalising rail, mail, gas, and electricity has majority support.
