Harlow Council won’t be removing any statues or sculptures

Politics / Thu 18th Jun 2020 at 08:23am

IN light of recent issues regarding statues and their subjects links to slavery, we asked Harlow Council if they planned to review the background to any of the statues and sculptures in and around the town.

A spokesperson for Harlow Council said: “Regarding reviewing sculptures. Harlow has a large collection of outdoor public art made by artists from around the world.

The collection includes some sculptures of people. Harlow Art Trust has reviewed the collection in light of the recent focus on public monuments and the Black Lives Matter movement and does not believe any of the artworks represent a racist or imperialist agenda.

The Trust has no plans to remove any artworks.

“It has not received any complaints or petitions calling for any sculptures to be removed”.
