Victoria Hall Theatre look to the future

Entertainment / Fri 19th Jun 2020 at 01:25pm

WE MISS reviewing plays at the Victoria Hall Theatre in Old Harlow, so we were pleased to find out what is and what isn’t happening over the next few months, via a sbatemnret from their chairman.

==========

Dear Patrons, Volunteers, Theatre Companies and Friends Statement from the Chairman.

Due to the ongoing pandemic we have had to postpone, indefinitely, this year’s AGM. As an alternative I would like to offer a brief summary and review of last year, our current situation and plans for the future.

2019 was another successful year for the theatre we achieved many great things (including but not limited to):
• Fundraising
• Installation of full Air conditioning through-out the venue
• An electrical upgrade including new lighting in the Bar area

We hosted 16 productions by 9 user groups.

The committee said goodbye to Andrew Golder and welcomed our newest member Molly Jenkins.

In the interests of continuity during this unusual time the current officers of the charity will remain in place for the time-being. However, in the meantime, if anyone would like to stand for committee they can do so by contacting Martin (via the contact details below).
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month, currently via video conference.

Financially we are in a strong and stable position. A full treasurers report will follow shortly.

Last years Christmas Production of Hansel & Gretel was a financial and critical success, with great appreciation to the cast and crew. Especially to Jeanne Stacey & Daniel James for writing and directing such an amazing show.

We are currently closed for all forms of hire until further notice. All shows have been postponed or cancelled. This decision was taken based on the Governments guidance and advice.

All hirers were given the choice of postponement, or cancellation with a full refund of any deposits being returned.

When we know how and when we can re open, we will be contacting all users that chose to postpone to give them first choice of dates (in the order in which they had been cancelled).

The theatre is being monitored and cared for on a regular bases.

I think we can all agree that with a small venue such as ours it would be impossible to re open whilst social distancing measures are in place. However, looking towards the future with a positive outlook, here is our current three step plan for re opening (subject to change).

Step 1 – Assess

• Listen and act on the Governments scientific advice.
• Assess how this advice fits with our venue and volunteers. • Watch & learn from other theatres who are able to return.

Step 2 – Prepare

• Act on any safety measures.
• Complete our annual tidy, clear out and deep clean.

Step 3 – Launch

• Organise bookings
• Community Event – Opening celebration (details to follow)

Further developments include a new website which we plan to launch in the near future.

We do hope to re open as soon as possible and we miss our community very much.

Anyone who has any questions, or wishes to offer any comments, can do so by contacting any member of the committee, or myself via the contact details below.

All the best, stay safe and hope to see you all soon.

Martin Colton
