Athletics: Emma, the accidental marathon runner

LAST Sunday, the intrepid Anna Robyn completed an Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run) in and around Harlow.
A number of swimmers, cyclists and runners joined Anna as part of the fifteen hour challenge.
Amongst the runners was Emma Elven. Emma, had intended to join Anna on one of the 5k laps around Church Langley and Harlow.
She had no intention of doing all 42 kilometres but somehow, she did.
Emma said: “I didn’t really mean to. I only went out for training run, thinking I’d support Anna for a couple of laps.
I was having such a lovely run with the team including such positive people such as Kerry Mavris. I got to 30km and thought I could just carry on.
It was a privilege to “hang out” with incredible athletes even if it was just before midnight when I finished.
“A bonus was that I was twenty minutes fast than my first marathon, the London Marathon in 2019”.
Emma took up running a few years ago, joining her husband Martin Elven, a prolific runner, from 5k to marathon.
She also has benefitted from being part of the running organisation, Park Run and Beyond (PRAB).
Emma said: “I have only improved due to the awesome support and advice from Adrian Fell and the team at PR&B.
“He continued to write personal training programmes which has helped me stay focused over the past few months.
I have zero sporting background and he takes time to answer my numerous questions with a huge amount of patience”
