Cricket: A mixed bag of results for Harlow CC

Report by Andy Yeats

THE First XI’s search for a victory will continue for at least another week as familiar batting frailties came back to haunt them after an excellent fight back in the field. Facing down the barrel at 116-1, sixteen consecutive overs of spin from Rehman Ahmed (3-39) and Ben Yeats (3-42) turned the tide backed up by good death bowling from Waheed Azam (2-34) and Matt Hart (1-38). Earlier on Callum Sykes had bowled a testing tight spell of 1-11 in 6 overs.

The home sides 190 all out looked a challenge but one achievable despite the prestigious bounce and turn on offer. Sadly, we lost wickets at regular intervals and despite 41 from Jack Sykes and 39 from Ben Yeats we fell 20 runs short.

The Second XI lost to their counterparts from Buckhurst Hill at Marigolds. Details await.

The 3rd XI had a morale boosting win away at Harlow Town 2’s. Mustafa Zaman took 4-41 and Arshad Muhammed 3-27 as we bowled the town rivals out for 134. We got home with the loss of 6 wickets with Arshad top scoring with 29.

The 4th XI crushed Brentwood 6th XI by 9 wickets. Ronnie Fuller spun his way to 4-7 supported by Libby Riddell (2-34) as we dismissed the home side for 111. We strode to the win by 9 wickets as Nathan McCathy (61*) and Zain Munir (38*) shared a century partnership.

No news yet from the 5’s but a full match report covering all five sides will be posted later in the week once the details are available.
