Harlow Council leader responds to new lockdown announcement

Health / Sun 1st Nov 2020 at 03:33pm

Dear Editor,

THE Prime Minister’s announcement of a second national lockdown last night was the right action, but unfortunately it was taken later than it should have been.

I began calling for a circuit breaker lockdown three weeks ago because I believe that if he had taken action sooner rather than later, in line with the advice from scientists, it would have resulted in fewer people being infected, fewer people becoming sick, and we could have therefore ended the lockdown more quickly with less damage to the economy and peoples’ well-being.

However we are now in a serious position and a second lockdown is tragically the only responsible course of action. It is up to us all to do what we can to make that lockdown work.

I know that Harlow residents, who sacrificed so much during the first wave, are tired of the restrictions, and that this second lockdown must be a real blow. I also understand that this news brings further uncertainty for many of our residents who are at high risk of infection, are out of work or in insecure employment, and whose lives have been fundamentally affected by Covid-19. However if we are to protect the NHS and save lives, yet again we are all going to have accept the burden of responsibility, follow the guidance and stay at home as much as possible.

Harlow Council stands ready to fully reactivate its community hub that helped so many in the first lockdown, to coordinate services to support vulnerable residents, and to work with government to help businesses.

Residents should have received copies of the Harlow Times last week. Along with much useful information about how to cope with Covid related problems, Harlow Councillors’ contact numbers are printed near the back and I would encourage residents who are unsure of where they can access help to call their local Councillors who will do their best to assist.

Yours faithfully

Mark Ingall

So in other words the harlow council leader is a disgrace, the government is also a disgrace. Take your lockdown and stick it. More people in th uk have diabetes type 2 compared to covid, but you can still eat your self to death on all the cake, fizzy drinks and chocolate that you want and yet covid is for some reason being treated like a world ender. Behave.

Just the Labour Central Office prepared response we should have expected from this Labour Leader. Why are they offering nothing during this pandemic, other than sitting on the sidelines carping. Why don’t they actually do what Attlee did during WWII and actually offer valuable support.

Harlow Council should have been supporting the buisness in Harlow and the community because looking at the stats residents and business have been a credit as we are very low so why is Harlow being penilused for doing everything right ,unfortunately this is not CV19 issue there is lack of funds in the NHS and that is the problem I worked in the profession as a manager for 28yrs and anyone who has had that experience will see right through this ridiculous decision .
