THE Chancellor has today announced further financial support for businesses and residents in Harlow and the villages. The changes include an extension of the furlough scheme until the end of March and an increase in the next self-employed grant from 55% to 80% of trading profits.

Commenting, Harlow’s MP, Robert Halfon said: “Residents and businesses are facing incomprehensible financial difficulties at this time and I am doing everything I can to help them. I have been lobbying the Government constantly for further support for residents and this announcement will help to protect jobs and livelihoods across the town. It also comes alongside a number of other measures announced earlier this week.

“To date, over 16,000 Harlow jobs have been protected by the furlough scheme and over 5,000 self-employed residents have been supported by the self-employed income scheme. I’ve managed to secure a financial package worth well over £130 million for our town so far and I will continue to do all I can to help everyone get the support they need.

“I would strongly advise any business facing difficulties to visit the Government help portal to access this support: www.gov.uk/business-coronavirus-support-finder.”

The package of measures announced earlier this week by the Prime Minister and Chancellor include:
Extension to the Government backed business loan schemes
Mortgage payment holidays
A new round of grants for local businesses
More funding for Harlow council
