THE region’s leading independent performing arts organisation Phoenix Theatre Group have launched a COVID-19 Christmas Appeal, working with Safer Places, a domestic abuse charity based in Essex and Hertfordshire, to purchase essential supplies for the women and children who use their facilities as well as Christmas gifts.
Phoenix Theatre Group’s directors have created a video demonstrating the impact of COVID-19 for domestic violence victims and the need for extra support during the festive period.
The team have launched the appeal with an initial donation of items worth £500 and are now asking the local community to assist the Phoenix Family, including all their theatre school students in Saffron Walden, Bishop’s Stortford and Harlow, via an Amazon Wish List. The items will be delivered directly to the Phoenix Head Office, collated and then taken to Safer Places.
Phil Dale, Creative Director says, “It’s been very easy to feel sorry for ourselves this year with Covid-19. Safer Places has been a real eye opener and a reminder of the fact that there are those who are in a genuinely perilous position as a result of this pandemic. We’re delighted to be able to offer our support this Christmas”.
Clive Edwards, Managing Director says, “In such challenging times its incredibly important that local businesses like ourselves work together with local organizations like Safer places who are providing such an essential service to those most in need in Essex and Herts”.
